Give the day a destination, then wander.
Check the bike as well as the trail.
E-bike access depends on the complete route and bike class. South Park does not permit e-bikes. Keep bicycles off the Pacific Crest Trail and out of designated wilderness; use current land-manager rules and signs. On shared trails, ride under control and yield to people on foot and horseback.

QUINCY / GRAVEL & TIMED STAGES
Grinduro brings gravel riding and timed enduro stages together in Quincy, with as much emphasis on the gathering as the ride. Visit the organizer for the current edition, route, eligibility, and registration.

Start with the Portola Riverwalk, the Mill Pond loop, or Baldwin Park for a short outing. For children comfortable on dirt, choose a short Lake Davis Trail out-and-back. Inspect the current surface, share the trail, and keep the return in mind.
A short section of the shoreline trail can introduce natural-surface riding. The full loop is about 19 miles with trail and gravel: approachable technically, but a real endurance outing. They are different plans.
Confident intermediate riders can compare Mills Peak and the classic Mount Hough route. Downieville and the rougher Hough alternatives need more technical experience. Check the whole group’s skill and stamina with a local shop.
Local rental options include Lost Sierra E-Bike Rentals for a customized village outing, Yuba Expeditions for mountain riding, and Downieville Outfitters for the downhill area. Availability, sizing, equipment, age requirements, and reservations need direct confirmation.
No. Check the permitted bike class and complete alignment. South Park is closed to e-bikes, including the South Park finish from Mount Hough. Do not infer permission from a bicycle icon, rental offer, or one connecting segment.
It removes much of the initial climb. Long descents still require braking, bike handling, energy, and repair readiness, and many routes include climbing. Arrange the finish and return as carefully as the shuttle.
Higher routes depend on snowmelt, roads, trail condition, and weather. Lower paths and valley roads can offer other options, but wet trails, heat, smoke, wind, and seasonal closures still matter. Use current reports rather than a fixed opening date.
