← EXPLORE THE LOST SIERRA
Portola
A little river air, without a big plan. Flexible out-and-back; Easy.
LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA
A paved multipurpose path brings the Middle Fork Feather River into an easy Portola outing. Shorten the ride for children, linger beside the water, or add a picnic instead of setting a mileage goal.
Distance: Flexible out-and-back
Effort: Easy
Climbing/descending: Mostly level
Allow: Choose your turnaround
From the Lodge: About 10 min
Bike: Comfortable path bike
Plan: Begin near Beckwith Street and Riverside Avenue. Follow the public Riverwalk toward the National Forest picnic area east of town; choose a turnaround that leaves everyone energy for the return.
Host tip: Pack snacks and let the youngest rider set the pace. A short ride and a Portola lunch can be a complete morning.
Before you ride: Share the path with walkers, dogs, and disc golfers. Announce passing and keep speeds low.
