Johnsville Road Bike Climb

Johnsville Road Bike Climb

A steady climb into local history. About 14 mi round trip; Moderate to hard.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA

County Road A-14 rises from Graeagle toward Plumas-Eureka State Park and Johnsville. Forest, the stamp mill, and mountain scenery give the climb a destination beyond its elevation gain.

Distance: About 14 mi round trip

Effort: Moderate to hard

Climbing/descending: About 1,200 ft climbing

Allow: 1½–3 hr

From the Lodge: 10–15 min to a Graeagle start

Bike: Road, gravel, or touring bike

Plan: Choose a legal starting point and a mapped turnaround near the historic Johnsville area. Extensions toward Upper Jamison change the outing and depend on seasonal access.

Host tip: Pause at the park museum when open and let the history be part of the ride.

Before you ride: A-14 carries vehicles and has limited visibility in places. Use lights, predictable road positioning, and conservative descending.
