Sierra Valley Road Cycling

Big sky. Long horizons. About 40 or 55 mi by circuit; Moderate to hard.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA

Open ranchland, wetlands, and wide valley views create a different road day from the forested alpine climbs. Distance, wind, and exposure provide their own challenge.

Distance: About 40 or 55 mi by circuit

Effort: Moderate to hard

Climbing/descending: Varies by route

Allow: Plan around distance and wind

From the Lodge: 15–30 min by start

Bike: Road, touring, or gravel bike

Plan: Choose an exact circuit using public highways and county roads such as A23 and A24. Start at lawful public parking and verify every connection and refueling opportunity.

Host tip: Begin early for lighter winds and more active birdlife. A shorter well-chosen circuit can be the better outing.

Before you ride: These roads carry vehicles and have variable shoulders. Carry water, check wind direction, and respect ranch gates and private land.
