FAMILY & FRIENDS / YOUR PEOPLE, YOUR GETAWAY
By The Lost Sierra Lodge · Editorial guide
5 min read
This guide suits extended families, friends and couples who want a shared home with optional outings, rather than a trip everyone must spend doing the same activity. Keep a short town or river outing for the whole group and make longer hikes, rides or rounds optional. The Lost Sierra Lodge has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and room for up to ten overnight guests.

Share breakfast, choose a lake day or a mountain outing, then come home to the hot tub, pool table, poker room and an evening that belongs to your group. You do not need a packed itinerary to make the trip worthwhile.

01
Agree on the sleeping plan.
Five bedrooms give your group options, but the bed arrangements matter as much as the bedroom count. Review the bedrooms and bathrooms together before reserving. There is one downstairs bedroom and four upstairs; contact the hosts about stairs, entry routes or particular access needs rather than assuming the home is step-free.
One private home for up to ten guests.
Your reservation is for the home, with shared spaces for your registered overnight group. Count everyone in your party when checking the booking details. A family reunion here means a stay together within the home’s guest limit; ask the hosts before planning additional visitors or a gathering.
See the spaces before choosing dates.
Browse the full photo gallery and Lodge overview. Compare the layout with the way your group likes to travel: early risers, people who want quiet time, and those who will happily play one more game.
02
Cook together. Leave room at the table.
Plan a shared breakfast and a dinner that does not require a reservation. Explore the kitchen and dining spaces to see the cooking setup and decide what to bring. Divide the shopping and meal planning before arrival so one person does not spend the whole stay organizing everyone else.
Find your own corner, then come back together.
The gathering spaces include the pool hall, poker room and living areas. Bring a book, choose a game, or enjoy an unhurried conversation. Different interests can share the same home without following the same schedule all day.
Take the evening outside.
See the outdoor living areas for the hot tub, deck, barbecue and outdoor games. Weather and conditions shape outdoor plans. Keep children appropriately supervised, especially around the hot tub, and follow the house rules so everyone can enjoy the stay.

03
Keep one outing as the anchor.
Choose a lake day, compare hikes, or plan a relaxed visit to Graeagle and Portola. Match the outing to the people coming, including walking comfort, driving preferences and how much time you want outside. Check seasonal access before heading into the mountains.
Different plans can end at the same dinner table.
Golfers can compare local courses, riders can explore cycling options, and others can choose food and local stops. Agree on transport and a time to meet back at the Lodge. Activities, rentals and tee times are booked separately with their operators.
Borrow a plan when it helps.
Our family and dog-friendly weekend guide offers smaller outings; the three-day getaway provides a broader starting point. Use the season guide to choose when to visit and keep a weather backup in mind. Leave space for a good day at home.
Choose the day by the commitment it needs.
For a relaxed morning, use the Portola Riverwalk, with a turnaround agreed before you start, then lunch. For a full outing, choose one Lakes Basin destination and pack food, water and layers; road access and any rental need checking first. For mixed interests, send golfers or experienced hikers with their own transport and set dinner as the reunion point.
A nature-focused alternative is the Sierra Valley Preserve. Its Nature Center and outdoor entrances have different hours, and dogs are not permitted beyond parking areas. It fits birdwatching and a measured walk better than a dog outing.
04
Can we bring our dogs?
Up to two approved dogs are welcome, with applicable pet fees and house rules. Include them in your booking plans and check pet access separately for each outing. Ask the hosts if you need help deciding whether a particular plan works for your group.
Is this only for families with children?
No. This path is for extended families, friends, couples traveling together and small reunion stays. Plan around the people joining you; children, dogs and a full sightseeing schedule are all optional.
How long should we stay?
Start with the dates everyone can make and check the current minimum stay and total price. A longer stay leaves room for an outing day and an unplanned day at the Lodge. Availability and minimum nights vary by date.
How do we reserve?
Check availability and total pricing, confirm the guest count and sleeping arrangements, and review the terms shown for your dates. If you have a layout, dog or access question, ask Travis and Brittany before booking. For a trip centered on a round or a celebration, explore Golf Getaways or Wedding Guest Stays.
How do we avoid making one person organize everything?
Assign the shared dinner, transport and one outing to different adults before arrival. Keep breakfast self-paced and make the extra activity optional. Agree on the lofted primary suite’s sound separation when allocating rooms, especially if early sleepers and late pool players are sharing the house.
