Moderate · 2.5–4.5 mi · 700–900 ft on full loop · 2–3 hr
The broader Wild Plum Loop turns a quick visit to Loves Falls into a fuller Sierra City hike. Depending on the route selected, hikers can follow shaded forest, Haypress Creek, portions of the Pacific Crest Trail, and the North Yuba River before visiting the falls.
The approach: Begin near Wild Plum Campground, approximately one mile east of Sierra City.
Along the way: Forest trail, rocky sections, creekside walking, junctions with the Pacific Crest Trail, and several possible loop configurations. Your exact mileage depends on the route chosen.
Host tip: Decide before starting whether you want the shorter campground loop or the fuller route incorporating Loves Falls. Download that exact route so the many connecting trails add flexibility rather than confusion.
Before you go: Wild Plum Campground and portions of the access road operate seasonally. High water, fallen trees, or remaining snow can alter the best route.
