Wades Lake lies in an upper branch of the Jamison Creek watershed, beyond waterfalls, forest, and several trail junctions. Its quieter shoreline appeals to strong hikers who want the feeling of a full mountain day. The distance and terrain make this a more deliberate choice than a roadside lake or short family stroll.

At the water: Swim, picnic, and enjoy the basin with everything you need carried in. A conventional kayak or paddleboard is not a practical addition to a three-mile uphill approach. A compact fishing kit is a more manageable extra.

Getting there: From the Jamison Creek Trailhead, follow the route toward Wades Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail, then the lake spur. The guidebook estimates around three miles each way. Download your route before losing reception.

Host tip: Choose the direct out-and-back on a first visit. Save the rugged connector toward Rock and Jamison for a separately planned outing.
