Rock and Jamison lakes reward a longer walk through historic mining country, creekside forest, and granite terrain. The Jamison Creek approach passes Little Jamison Falls and Grass Lake before reaching the upper basin. This is a substantial hiking day with a swim at its heart, rather than a conventional beach outing.
At the water: Explore the two neighboring shorelines and choose a comfortable swimming entry according to sun, wind, and your group’s ability. Bring a compact lunch and swimming kit; all equipment must be carried for the full outing.
Getting there: Plan for approximately six miles round trip with around 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Start at the Jamison Creek Trailhead near the historic mine and follow the signed route with an offline map.
Host tip: Choose one lake for the long picnic, then visit the other only if your group still has time and energy for a comfortable return.
Before you go: Trails intersect in the upper basin. Confirm your route, seasonal snow, and any dog restrictions along the state-park portion before setting out.
