← EXPLORE THE LOST SIERRA
Lakes Basin
Follow the creek to a livelier kind of waterfall outing.
LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA
Moderate · 2.9 mi · Rocky creek trail · 1–2 hr
Tumley and Halsey Falls offer a livelier, more intimate waterfall experience than the paved path at Frazier Falls. The trail follows the Gray Eagle Creek drainage through forest and rocky terrain to cascades that are especially impressive during snowmelt.
The approach: Use AllTrails navigation to reach the appropriate Gray Eagle Creek trail access from Gold Lake Highway.
Along the way: Rocky trail, uneven footing, creekside terrain, and potentially wet or slippery surfaces near the falls. Water levels change dramatically throughout the season.
Host tip: Visit during healthy runoff, when the falls are at their most energetic, but give the water plenty of respect. Continue only if the trail and crossings feel comfortable for everyone in your group.
Before you go: Wet rocks near moving water can be extremely slick. Do not climb onto exposed rock above the cascades, and turn around if runoff makes a crossing unsafe.
