Pack Saddle Loop is a quiet forest hike for guests who prefer an actual loop instead of retracing an out-and-back route. The trail descends through the trees on switchbacks, crosses Forest Road 93, and then climbs back toward the trailhead through the Sierra Buttes high country. It does not have one dramatic lake or waterfall destination. Its appeal comes from the trail itself: forest, wildflowers, occasional views, and the peaceful feeling of being away from the area’s busier attractions.

The approach: Monarch Road in the Packer Saddle area

Along the way: Forested singletrack, switchbacks, modest climbing, and two crossings of Forest Road 93. Although AllTrails rates it easy, the elevation gain makes it feel more substantial than the flatter hikes on this page.

Host tip: Choose this trail when the lakes and headline attractions are busy. It pairs naturally with a visit to Packer Lake or a scenic drive through the Sierra Buttes area.

Before you go: The trail is shared with mountain bikes and horses, so remain alert and yield appropriately. Dogs are permitted but must remain on leash. The most reliable hiking season is generally June through October.
