Lily Lake Trail

A small alpine lake for guests who prefer stillness to a summit.

Easy · About 0.7 mi · Gentle terrain · 30–60 min

Lily Lake is a peaceful little high-country destination tucked among forest, wetland vegetation, and the larger lakes of the Lakes Basin. This is not the area’s grandest or most dramatic lake, and that is part of its appeal: the walk feels quiet, intimate, and wonderfully removed from the busier trailheads. Watch the shoreline for dragonflies and waterbirds, listen for frogs, and enjoy the reflections across the small lake. It is an easy place to slow down rather than race toward a summit.

The approach: The Lily Lake and Gray Eagle Creek trail area within the Lakes Basin, reached from Gold Lake Road

Along the way: Forested singletrack, gentle terrain, a small alpine lake, wetland plants, birds, insects, and seasonal wildflowers. Nearby trail junctions provide options for extending the walk along Gray Eagle Creek.

Host tip: Bring binoculars or a camera and visit during the quieter morning hours. If your group wants a longer outing, use the map to continue onto one of the surrounding Lakes Basin trails.

Before you go: Several trails and connectors meet in this area, so download your route before leaving the Lodge. Early-season mosquitoes can be enthusiastic around the lake and neighboring wetlands.
