The Jamison Mine Trail follows Jamison Creek from the historic mining landscape of Plumas-Eureka State Park into a striking chain of waterfalls, forest, granite, and alpine lakes. Along the way, hikers can visit Little Jamison Falls and Grass Lake before continuing toward neighboring Rock and Jamison Lakes.

The approach: Follow the signed Jamison Mine road from Plumas-Eureka State Park toward the historic mine complex and trailhead. The final approach is on an unpaved road.

Along the way: A rocky mountain trail following Jamison Creek uphill. Water crossings, wet rocks, remaining snow, and seasonal runoff can add difficulty. Grass Lake makes a satisfying destination for a shorter day; Rock and Jamison reward hikers who continue.

Host tip: Start early and make the lakes the centerpiece of the outing. Pack lunch, a swimsuit, and fishing gear if that is part of your day. Rock and Jamison are wonderful places to slow down and enjoy a genuine backcountry lake experience.

Before you go: Download the chosen route and check lake junctions carefully. The approach begins in Plumas-Eureka State Park; confirm the current pet rules for the specific park and Lakes Basin trail sections before bringing a dog.
