A longer drive for a bigger lake day, from beach towels to a boat rental.
LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA
Bucks Lake earns a full day on the calendar. Sandy shoreline, forested coves, public recreation sites, marinas, and seasonal lakeside dining make it an appealing destination when your group wants several activities in one place. It is a longer outing from the Lodge, so leave early and give the water most of the day.
At the water: Sandy Point is a useful first-visit base for swimming and a picnic. Bucks Lake Marina offers seasonal rentals that may include kayaks, paddleboards, fishing boats, pontoons, and watersports equipment. Reserve larger boats in advance and confirm the exact equipment you want.
Getting there: Choose a public day-use area, launch, or reserved marina service before departing. Download directions and pack supplies for the full day; roads and services can be seasonal.
Host tip: Paddle or boat in the morning, spend the afternoon at the shoreline, and confirm a seasonal lakeside dinner before making it part of the plan.
Before you go: Lake levels affect beaches, ramps, and docks. Ask about fees, pet policies, rental terms, and current road conditions directly.
