Upper Sardine Lake Fishing

Upper Sardine Lake Fishing

A short climb into a wilder basin.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA

A hike, an undeveloped shore, and small mountain trout beneath granite. Choose Upper Sardine for scenery and fishing rather than the expectations of a recently stocked roadside lake.

Access: Treat the rough approach road as a hiking route for ordinary guest vehicles. Finding a comfortable casting position can take more effort than simply reaching the lake.

Fishing approach: Travel light. Small spinners and compact fly patterns suit clear water; approach shoreline pockets quietly.

Host tip: A simple kit makes the climb and exploration more enjoyable.

Before you go: Rough footing, brush, snow, and cold water shape the outing. Short mileage does not promise easy access.
