Smith Lake Fishing

Smith Lake Fishing

A compact hike. A whole lake at the end.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA

A useful balance between a real mountain walk and time left to fish. The shoreline and nearby cascades give non-anglers a reason to join the outing.

Access: The approach is short but moderately strenuous. Follow the exact Smith Lake route; connections to other lakes can turn it into a much longer day.

Fishing approach: Shore fishing is a useful starting point. Seek points, shade, and depth changes; a float tube is an optional specialized addition.

Host tip: Make Smith the destination and enjoy it slowly. Save the full circuit for a dedicated hiking day.

Before you go: Provisional plans may include fingerlings, not immediately catchable fish. Check completed plants and access.
