A proper eighteen, with the Feather River keeping you company.
Portola is our first pick when the group wants a complete round close to the Lodge. John Houck’s layout combines open riverfront space with trees, changing lines, and short and long tees. Newer players can keep things approachable; stronger throwers still have decisions to make.
Start with the shorter tees if the group is learning. An earlier round can be a pleasant choice before afternoon wind adds another layer to the game. Leave time for a riverside picnic or a walk with anyone who is not playing.
Start near the corner of Beckwith Street and Riverside Avenue in Portola. Download the current course map before your first round and check the tee layout as you go.
This is a shared public park. Walkers, cyclists, dogs, and other park users may cross the playing area. Wait for a completely clear fairway and give other visitors room. Riverfront exposure can make wind part of the round; snow and wet ground can affect winter play.
Make it a Portola morning: a café stop, eighteen holes, and time beside the river. For a longer disc-golf day, continue to Brewing Lair during brewery hours.
