← EXPLORE THE LOST SIERRA
Chester & Lake Almanor
A destination fishery with several moods.
LOCAL PHOTOGRAPH / THE LOST SIERRA
A large reservoir with distinct trout, landlocked Chinook, and bass opportunities. A boat, guide, or careful research makes its scale more manageable.
Access: Pick a lawful public launch or shore access before driving. Much of the shoreline is private; arrange guides and services directly.
Fishing approach: Learn one fishery first. Deep trolling and evening fly fishing require different tackle and timing. The celebrated Hexagenia hatch is seasonal and conditions-dependent.
Host tip: A local guide can help you understand the lake in one visit.
Before you go: Large water, wind, and late returns need planning. Tributary rules can differ from main-lake rules.
